POWER GENERATION; AN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE

Every day you wake up, go to work and no matter how bad it gets you always end with the same prayer;

“God, please let there be light”

Not to be the antagonist but wishful thinking doesn’t always become electricity cause if it did, we’d have more light-bulbs than humans.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s talk about power generation, transmission and distribution in Nigeria. That age long achievement that has eluded your motherland (I’m Italian, of course) long before it was called the “Dark Continent”. For those who came looking for quick answers, I apologize. Accept my remorse with this link to my post which you'll definitely love

Iyawo ore mi: an Ode to "entanglements"

 What I will tell you about is the African dislike for life made easy. Before you start defending your “baby boy” lifestyle and how you need pampering, would it be bad idea if a continent like ours brimming with natural blessings put them to good use? Dear reader, you’d be shocked by what we don’t do over here. Despite the yearly plans and the nice words like “utilizing” combines in sentences such as “resources are being put to good use), It hasn’t been working. Simply put, the system isn’t working and for all our lack of platforms, it comes down to one thing; focus and planning. Can you imagine if we focused on providing solutions as opposed to “showing working”? I’ll tell you about that next week.

For now, we talk about the fun part. To all ye who think that power generation and distribution in Nigeria is complex, stop crying. It’s as easy as rain falling and sun shining. I mean this literally cause every rain fall that causes a water body to swell allows us to convert the water flow and turbulence into a limitless energy source. Solar panels need no explanation as every renewable energy firm is struggling to own that market.

In the end, think about it: No matter how many times you curse the power generation companies in Nigeria, you won’t get more electricity. However, if you play your cards right, we could all have electricity 24/7 but that raises the question;

What would you do with all that light?
